September 24th saw Derbyshire Netball Association host a Reunion for players, coaches, umpires and volunteers who had previously been involved in the County over the last fifty years to meet up with old friends and share stories.

It was held in a magnificent setting in Hartington’s Youth Hostel (in the Heart – sorry about the pun!) of Derbyshire. The event was attended by about 50 people who were able to share old photos, memories and personal profiles. Everyone got the chance to have a look back over the years and several people recounted their experiences from the different decades.

These recollections were met with much laughter and appreciation of the efforts made by all involved. There was much reminiscing and the buzz of different chats ensuing throughout the day made all the efforts by the organisers a joy to behold.
An excellent lunch was provided by the YHA, subsidised by DNA, and some of the costs were recouped by a raffle with the prizes being donated by members of the County Management Board.

Fun activities included a shooting competition and a village quiz. It must be said that the old competitive element was apparent with the usual disputes!

An auction was held with a particular item donated by Derbyshire’s Secretary, Hilary Flint. This was an unusual piece of a netballer in a glass sphere. The proceeds from the auction went to the Netball Development Trust which is a charity dear to Derbyshire’s President – Liz Broomhead. This one item raised £60.00

The County Association would like to express its thanks to everyone who came to the Reunion and to all the volunteers who helped to plan and run the event.
