Loughborough Lightning Academies U17 & U19
The County Programme finishes at year 10 and the Region’s VNSL Franchise takes over the pathway, for our Region this is Loughborough Lightning.
The Lightning Under 17 Academy trials will be held in September 2022 – information will be released on the website https://www.lboro.ac.uk/sport/performance/lightning/netball/academy/trials/
The age banding changes at the level to the England Netball standard of 31st December, so school years no longer determine eligibility. To qualify for trials an athlete must be Under 17 on 31st December 2022. This means that all Year 11s (from September 2022) are eligible but NOT all year 12s
EG:
Amy is currently in Year 11 – going in to Year 12 in September. Her birthday is 27/02/2006 – so she turns 17 on 27/02/2023 As at 31/12/2022 she is still Under 17 so is eligible to trial.
Laura is currently in Year 11 – going in to Year 12 in September. Her birthday is 09/10/2005– so she turns 17 on 09/10/2022 As at 31/12/2022 she is over 17 so cannot trial for U17s, instead has to go for Under 19s
The Lightning Under 19 Academy trials will also be held in September 2022 – information will also be released via the website above. The same age bandings apply, so Under 19 as at 31/12/2022.
Sitting in between the Under 17 and Under 19 Academies is the Lightning Player Development Programme Under 17-19 Athletes who are not successful at trials may be invited to join this squad – there are no trials, it is by invitation only.
