Derbyshire Netball Awards

During this year’s Derbyshire Netball Festival on July 19th , we’re excited to celebrate the achievements and spirit of our netball community with a special awards presentation.


These awards are a chance to recognise the dedication, talent, and contributions of players, coaches, volunteers, and clubs across the county. Nominations are now open, and we encourage everyone to get involved. The deadline for submissions is June 20th, so don’t miss the opportunity to shine a spotlight on your netball heroes.


The Categories and Criteria

  • Vera Critchlow โ€“ Service to Netball Award

    Vera Critchlow or ‘Critch’ as she was known, was a Derbyshire County Netball coach in the fifties and sixties and was involved with all the county squads. She was devoted to netball.


    Criteria: 

    • This award is presented to a person who has made a significant contribution to Derbyshire netball over a long period of time.
    • Is a current member of England Netball through Derbyshire Netball

  • Jean Staley โ€“ Volunteer of the Year

    This award is presented in memory of Jean Staley, a former Derbyshire Netball Secretary, Committee Member, County and Club player.


    Criteria:

    • This award is presented to a person whose organizational skills and administration have made a significant contribution to netball in Derbyshire at any level within the season.
    • Over 25 yrs of age
    • Is a current member of England Netball through Derbyshire Netball

  • Janice Ruddle โ€“ Young Volunteer of the Year

    This award is presented in memory of Janice Ruddle, whose contribution to Derbyshire Netball at all levels was considerable, including getting ladies ‘back to netball’ and in later years had a significant impact upon Junior players and umpires.


    Criteria:

    • This award is presented to a person between the ages of 14yrs – 25yrs whose passion and dedication has made a significant contribution to netball in Derbyshire at any level within the season.
    • Is a current member of England Netball through Derbyshire Netball

  • Coach of the Year

    The award is presented to a coach who has made a significant contribution and impact in Derbyshire within the season.


    Criteria:

    • The award is presented to a coach, over the age of 25 yrs, who has made a significant contribution and impact in Derbyshire within the season.
    • Enables safe, fun and inclusive experiences for those involved in netball.
    • Holds an up-to-date England Netball coaching qualification or award e.g. Level 1, Level 2, Walking Netball Host
    • Is a current member of England Netball through Derbyshire Netball.

  • Young Coach of the Year

    The award is presented to a young coach, between the ages of 16yrs and 25yrs, who has made a significant contribution and impact in Derbyshire within the season.


    Criteria:

    • The award is presented to a young coach, between the ages of 16yrs and 25yrs, who has made a significant contribution and impact in Derbyshire within the season.
    • Enables safe, fun and inclusive experiences for those involved in netball.
    • Holds an up-to-date England Netball coaching qualification or award e.g. Level 1, Level 2
    • Is a current member of England Netball through Derbyshire Netball.

  • Umpire of the Year

    This award was donated by Pat Stewart, former Vice-President, player and umpire who gave many years’ service to Derbyshire Netball.


    Criteria:

    • This award is presented to a person, over 25 yrs, who has made a significant contribution to umpiring within the season.
    • Personal commitment to learning as well as impact on others involved within netball officiating in Derbyshire.
    • Enables safe, fun and inclusive experiences for those involved in netball.
    • Holds an up-to-date England Netball officiating qualification/award of any level.
    • Is a current member of England Netball through Derbyshire Netball.

  • Young Umpire of the Year

    This award is presented to a person, between the ages of 14yrs and 25yrs, who has made a significant contribution to umpiring within the season.


    Criteria:

    • This award is presented to a person, between the ages of 14yrs and 25yrs, who has made a significant contribution to umpiring within the season.
    • Personal commitment to learning as well as impact on others involved within netball officiating in Derbyshire.
    • Enables safe, fun and inclusive experiences for those involved in netball.
    • Holds an up-to-date England Netball officiating qualification/award of any level.
    • Is a current member of England Netball through Derbyshire Netball.

*If you wish to hold your Club's presentation awards during this event we will work with you to organise a time. Your club awards will NOT be part of the Derbyshire awards but a private place to celebrate with your club
