The purpose the Country Player Development Programme is to support the development of athletes. The player development journey is an evolutionary process, individual specific and shaped by experiences.
County Player Development Programme (PDP)
Under 13s
The U13s PDP is the entry point into the England Netball Player Pathway. Trials take place in September—click HERE for eligibility and selection details.
The squad of 20 athletes (school years 7 and 8, with age-banded year 6 eligibility) trains four hours every two weeks at Woodlands School in Allestree, Derby, from October to June. Training also includes competitive match play against other counties in our region. see the Athlete Calendar HERE for details.
Aligned with the England Netball Roses Development Framework, the U13 PDP focuses on:
- Introducing strength and conditioning
- Building fundamental skills (movement, passing, defending)
- Developing personal qualities
- Facilitating match play to enhance tactical understanding
Our goal is to retain 75% of athletes to progress to the next level, the U15 PDP.

Under 15s
The U15s PDP is the second stage in the England Netball Player Pathway. Trials take place in September—click HERE for eligibility and selection details.
A squad of 20 athletes (years 9 and 10, with year 8 eligibility by age banding) trains for four hours every two weeks at Woodlands School, Allestree, Derby, from October to June, along with match play against other regional counties (see Athlete Calendar HERE).
Building on prior skills, the U15 PDP focuses on advancing strength and conditioning, fundamental skills, and personal qualities while adding classroom sessions on:
- Nutrition
- Video and performance analysis
- Statistics
- Injury prevention
Our goal is for at least two athletes to progress to a Franchise U17 PDP or NPL squad. Click HERE for details on the next steps in the pathway following the U15 County PDP.

Derbyshire PDP: Kit and Costs
The fees for the 2024/2025 training year remain at £300.00 – payable in two instalments on 1st September 2024 and 1st January 2025.
We can offer a monthly payment plan on application and financial assistance may be available from Derbyshire County Here to Help form CLICK HERE.
The fee includes all training, including one hour of specialist S&C coaching for each session, a training top, a netball, a pump bag, match socks and a match dress.
Match fees will be charges per athlete per match, depending on location – usually between £5 and £10 per match.

PDP Camps
The Derbyshire Performance Team is excited to offer two preparation camps ahead of the Under-13 County Trials taking place in September 2025. These camps are a fantastic opportunity for players to develop their skills, gain experience, and get ready for the trials.
Camp Dates:
- Saturday 7th June 2025
- Saturday 28th June 2025
Session Times:
- Current Year 4 and 5 students: 9:00am – 12:00pm
- Current Year 6 and 7 students: 1:00pm – 4:00pm
Venue:
Woodlands School, Allestree, Derby, DE22 2LW
(Indoor sports hall and outdoor courts, weather permitting)
Cost:
£15 per session (provisional — final cost confirmed once numbers are finalized)

Trials will take place:
- Under 13s: 6th and 20th Sept, 2025

To be eligible to trial players must be nominated by a club coach or school teacher.
For Under 13s school years 6 to 8 (from September 2025) will be eligible. For Under 15s school years 9 & 10 (from September 2025) will be eligible.
